Emart24 to Launch Bitcoin-Themed Meal Boxes in Partnership with Bithumb
Emart24, a leading convenience store chain in South Korea, has announced the upcoming release of a Bitcoin-themed meal box in collaboration with the local cryptocurrency exchange, Bithumb. The announcement was made on May 9, revealing that 30,000 meal boxes will be available by the end of the month. Each box will be priced at $4.30, or 5,900 Korean won.
In addition to the Bitcoin-themed meal, customers will have the chance to participate in a Bitcoin giveaway worth 10,000 Korean won. To enter, buyers must download the Bithumb app and input the coupon code found inside the meal box.
South Korean brands are increasingly integrating cryptocurrency into their promotions. The Bitcoin meal box initiative is the latest example of this trend. Previously, crypto exchange Upbit collaborated with K-pop artists to launch an NFT platform, and MiL.k, a crypto rewards startup, partnered with Shinsegae Duty-Free for a crypto-based reward system.
This initiative is part of Bithumb’s broader strategy to promote cryptocurrency adoption in South Korea. The exchange is offering a bonus of 20,000 Korean won in Bitcoin to new users who sign up using an NH Nonghyup bank account. Existing bank account holders can also participate by linking their accounts to Bithumb.
This development coincides with increased regulatory scrutiny in South Korea. The Justice Ministry and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety are reportedly discussing the formation of a Joint Virtual Asset Crime Investigation Unit. Additionally, the country is set to introduce its first regulatory framework for digital currencies on July 19, which will impose stricter penalties for market manipulation.
