Pavel Durov Discusses TON Cryptocurrency Innovations at Token2049 Conference
Pavel Durov, the visionary founder of the messaging app Telegram, recently shared insights into the advancements of the TON cryptocurrency at the Token2049 conference held in Dubai.
Starting from April 19, Telegram channel administrators will have the ability to receive payments in Toncoin (TON) for advertisements placed within the app. Furthermore, beginning next week, Telegram users will gain the capability to tip channel administrators using TON, offering content creators a new stream of revenue.
Durov highlighted a groundbreaking feature within the social media landscape, stating, “For the first time in social media history, you can directly own your username, sell it, put it up for auction, buy multiple usernames, and attach them to your account.” This innovation not only enhances user engagement but also opens new avenues for monetization and personalization within the platform.
Additionally, TON has recently been recognized on the list of blockchain networks supported by the largest stablecoin by capitalization. Speculations about the integration of USDT on the TON network were first sparked in early April following the announcement of a joint presentation by Durov and Paolo Ardoino, CTO of Tether, at a cryptocurrency conference in Dubai.
This strategic move underscores Telegram’s commitment to expanding the utility of TON and enhancing its ecosystem through significant partnerships and technological integrations.
